The Ministry of Repentance and Holiness has dismissed claims that Prophet Dr David Owuor underwent medical procedures, calling the reports false and unverified.
In a statement issued on January 29, the ministry said that during the period in question, Dr Owuor was on an international mission in Japan and has since returned safely to continue ministry activities.
“We strongly reject recent claims made about Prophet Dr David Owuor, suggesting he underwent medical procedures. These allegations are false, unverified, and misleading,” the statement read in part.
It emphasised that its services are based on prayer and faith in Jesus Christ and cautioned against misrepresenting personal testimonies.
The ministry also urged leaders and media outlets to verify information before issuing public statements on matters of faith.
“We urge leaders and media figures to verify information before making public statements on matters of faith. Respect for truth, fairness, and freedom of worship must be upheld,” it noted.
CS Duale On Prophet Owuor Knee Surgery
Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has questioned claims of faith-based healing associated with Prophet Dr David Owuor, warning against narratives that undermine conventional medicine and patient safety.
Speaking on Citizen TV, Duale addressed the matter, saying that faith and spirituality remain important across religions but should not replace medical treatment.
The Cabinet Secretary questioned what he described as inconsistencies, alleging that Prophet Owuor himself sought medical care abroad.

“If he himself can go for knee replacement, I don’t know why he should ask his followers to go for spiritual nourishment and not take medicine,” Duale said, while indicating that authorities were seeking details of the hospital involved.
Additionally, he noted that Kenyans invest heavily in training healthcare professionals and that their work should not be dismissed or misrepresented.
“Whether Christian, Muslim, Hindu or Jewish, we still take our medicine for different ailments,” Duale said, adding that doctors undergo years of education, internship, and specialisation to become qualified professionals.
Duale’s Follow-Up
Duale took issue with reports that medical doctors were presented as evidence of miraculous healing, saying regulators had intervened.

He stated that the Ministry of Health and relevant regulators had written to the doctors involved, asking them to submit data and clinical evidence to support claims that patients were healed through prayer.
According to Duale, regulators have also sought evidence from Prophet Owuor regarding claims that patients who previously tested positive later tested negative as a result of preaching.
Duale also drew parallels with the Shakahola tragedy, where hundreds of followers died after being discouraged from seeking food and medical care. He cautioned religious leaders and followers to be vigilant, stressing that unverified spiritual claims can have fatal consequences.
“You have to be very careful. Shakahola showed us what happens when people are misled,” he said.
