23 candidates sitting for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA), which commenced on Monday, October 28, have sat for fake exams.
The candidates at Silver Bells Academy in Kimumu, Uasin Gishu County sat for the fake exams since Monday, October 28.
It was revealed that the school has not been registered by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).
At the same time Moiben Deputy County Commissioner, Kuasi Duncan, stated that the students were not registered for the examinations.
The school headteacher and the directors have been administering examinations to the students, falsely claiming that they are from KNEC.
“Yesterday, while we were sealing the exam container, a parent reported discrepancies in this school, noting that the pupils were delayed in taking their exams and the exam papers looked different. The school has been pretending to take KPSEA exams but there are no exams ongoing,” he said.
“The school has not been registered, and the children here have also not been registered to sit for the exams.”
Additionally, it was uncovered that the school had photocopied the exam papers that the candidates were sitting for.

The principal and the directors of the institution have been arrested by the police.
This comes after earlier in August 2024, KNEC CEO David Njengere announced changes in the exam papers said to curb exam cheating.
He said that students who will sit for the 2024 examination will have their papers customized, adding that candidates found breaking the rules will take personal responsibility.
Their names, index numbers, and other personal details will be pre-printed on the papers. Therefore, any malpractice by individual candidates will not lead to the punishment of an entire school or an examination center.

The government through the Ministry of Education disclosed that it will not issue certificates to the candidates sitting for the KPSEA exams.
Education PS Belio Kipsang in an interview with the media highlighted that the KPSEA exams are assessments and thus the candidates will not receive certificates.
“This is an assessment, and in assessments, candidates do not get a certificate at the end. You, instead get a report. So even in this assessment a child will get a report on their progress, and the school will get a report on the progress of the totality of the school,” Kipsang said in a statement to the media.
