Questions have been raised since the fire broke out at the county offices of Kilifi.
The fire which broke out at mid-morning on Tuesday, November 12, affected business activities in Kilifi town as residents rushed to the scene to witness the incident.
The fire comes days after activist Hanifa Farsafi exposed the situation of schools and hospitals in Kilifi.
“You guys! The state of schools and hospitals in Kilifi is diabolical,” Farsafi said.
Hanifa posted a video of Kakoneni Primary building which had cracks despite being renovated at a cost of Ksh3.6 million in the financial year 2022/23.
“This school building in Kilifi County has cracked and right in the middle of it!!! The area MP Amina Mnyazi renovated this building with Ksh3.6 million and months later it’s almost collapsing with kids inside! Half were evacuated and are currently studying under a tree!” she wrote on X.
Additionally, the activist said over 2000 students and kids are using five toilets which are in a ridiculous dehumanizing state.
“Have we actually become this comfortable with such impunity?” she asked.
Witnesses narrated that they saw smoke from the Department of Water and Environment and suspected that maybe a house had caught fire.
Witnesses Bahs Govt
Speaking to the media, a witness wondered how the department decided to burn trash within the town.
“They were saying that if you burn trash in the middle of town, the environmental officers will come to arrest you. But now we’re wondering how such a big organization can come and burn trash in the middle of town where there are houses and people living,” he said.
“We thought it was a house burning, so we came to find out what was happening and thought there might be people inside so we could help.”

Questions About County Fire
Hanifa said there was mischief in the fire with other X users claiming that the County was hiding evidence of the allegations raised by the activist.
ADVERT
“Ndio wafiche evidence we know the game,” Mtukazi said. This translates to “So that they can hide the evidence, we know the game.
Rose Kemboi reacted to the saying, “Evidence destroyed.”
Mike Njoroge stated that the evidence has now been burnt and the investigations will take a very long time to conclude.
“Evidence up in smoke. Investigations into the cause of the fire will take forever,” Njoroge wrote.
