Kenyan veteran politician Raila Odinga has passed away. The Former Prime Minister, who had been undergoing treatment in Kochi, passed away on October 15, 2025.
Odinga collapsed during a morning walk and was taken to Devamatha Hospital in Koothattukulam where he was pronounced dead.
His body is currently kept at the hospital.
His passing follows widespread speculation about his reportedly critical condition. Earlier, his family had firmly defended his health status, stating that he was in good spirits and on the path to recovery.
Odinga was known as “Baba,” and a prominent figure in Kenyan politics.
He was a longtime champion of electoral reform and multiracial democracy; he once served as prime minister (2008–2013) and led the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
He has unsuccessfully run for president five times – in 1997, 2007, 2013, 2017, and 2022.

His passing has led to tributes from all sides of the political landscape, with many honoring his role in strengthening democracy, promoting good governance, and fostering national unity.
