Privileges the NGOs will Enjoy
The NGOs will consequently enjoy several privileges within the country including tax exemptions, and diplomatic recognition.
Moreover, the host country agreement allows the organisation better ease of movement for personnel and strengthens collaboration with the government.
The Norwegian Refugee Council and Save the Children International play critical roles in responding to crises, including refugee resettlement and child protection efforts.
Therefore, their strengthened presence will enhance Kenya’s ability to support displaced populations.
On the other hand, the International IDEA specializes in electoral assistance and democratic reforms. The partnership is expected to enable transparent electoral processes and governance systems.
Shelter Afrique Development Bank focuses on affordable housing solutions across Africa. Its operations in Kenya could help address urban housing challenges and boost access to home financing.
Moreover, Population Services International (PSI) works in healthcare access, reproductive health, and disease prevention.
Oxfam International, known for its efforts in fighting poverty and advocating for economic justice, will continue working on issues such as climate resilience, social justice, and disaster response.

Gates Foundation and Special Privileges in Kenya
Kenya granted the Gates Foundation a special status through a legal notice number 157 of October 4, 2024. The Gates Foundation is chaired by US Billionaire businessman and Microsoft founder Bill Gates who also doubles up as a philanthropist.
However, the High Court of Kenya on Monday, November 25, issued conservatory orders suspending the Gazette Notice that granted the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation special privileges and immunity.
In a ruling Justice Bahati Mwamuye ordered the suspension and prohibited any members of the foundation from continuing to enjoy any privileges and immunities.
The order has been directed to the foundation’s staff, agents, officers and directors.
