Safaricom PLC has explained a new security feature on its MyOneApp platform designed to enhance account protection and prevent unauthorized access.
In a statement on April 18, Safaricom stated that under the update, user logins will be linked to a customer’s Safaricom SIM card to ensure only verified users can access their accounts.
“We’ve introduced a new security layer on MyOneApp to better protect your account. By linking your login to your Safaricom SIM, we ensure it’s always you accessing your services— keeping fraudsters out,” read part of the statement.
The move is aimed at curbing fraud.
Safaricom Enhances MyOneApp Security
For first-time login, users are required to set their Safaricom line as the primary data SIM, use mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, and complete a quick authentication process.
Safaricom noted that once logged in, use of MyOneApp will not consume mobile data.
However, users may be required to re-authenticate if the SIM card is removed or changed.
This comes after the telco apologized to its customers over the many challenges they experienced when accessing the App.
The company stated that it is working around the clock to resolve the issues raised, so that customers, whether in Kenya or abroad, can seamlessly access and use My OneApp.
“We have gathered all the feedback, and we are treating your concerns with urgency. Our teams are working around the clock to resolve the issues you have raised, so that whether you are in Kenya or abroad, you can seamlessly access and use My OneApp,” read part of the statement.
