A Kenyan senator serving his second term and holding the position of Senate Minority Whip, Ledama Olekina has revealed that former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i will support President William Ruto, sparking fresh attention to the country’s emerging 2027 political alignments.

Senator Ledama Olekina shared a post stating that Jubilee will support President William Ruto.

“Jubilee will support President Ruto…” he stated.

Kenyans React to Olekina

The post attracted reactions from several social media users, with some questioning Jubilee’s position and the political implications of the move.

Zack Kiarie linked the discussion to Jubilee leaders Jeremiah Kioni and Ngunjiri Wambugu, as well as former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i. Kibui Gatundu said Olekina could be more informed on Jubilee affairs because of his proximity to Kìhuria Wa Ndorongo.

“That’s very true. Kioni, Ngunjiri Wambugu and Matiang’i dine in statehouse,” Kiarie said.

Newton Masai questioned Jubilee’s position while linking the discussion to ODM and Edwin Sifuna. He also referenced the meeting between President William Ruto and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Erustus Kombulu questioned the position of what he described as “fake ODM” after referencing political movements involving the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Nchoe Glenn questioned Olekina’s position on President Ruto, asking whether the Senator would support the President amid claims that he opposed him.

Hillary Kirui said Jubilee would also win the Narok County gubernatorial position, while Lekishon Lemian questioned how Jubilee’s support for Ruto would benefit the people of Narok.

“And the same Jubilee will win the Narok County gubernatorial position.”

Ledama Ole Kina and His Party

Ledama Ole Kina is the Senator for Narok County and a member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM). He is serving his second term in the Senate after first being elected in 2017 and securing re-election in 2022 on an ODM ticket.

Ole Kina was elected Narok Senator in August 2017 on an ODM ticket. He retained the seat in the August 2022 elections after garnering 135,180 votes, again representing the party.

In the Senate, Ole Kina serves as the Senate Minority Whip, a position associated with the ODM and the Azimio coalition. Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, who is also an ODM member, serves as his deputy.

Ole Kina is a Kenyan politician, businessman and Maasai community advocate. His political work has included advocacy for Maasai land, cultural rights and issues affecting residents of Narok County.

He has also established a reputation for being outspoken during Senate debates. His exchanges with politicians from different political parties have occasionally drawn public attention.

Despite ODM’s broad-based cooperation arrangement with President William Ruto’s administration, Ole Kina has continued to identify publicly as an ODM member. He has also remained involved in discussions surrounding the party’s political strategy ahead of the 2027 elections.

In 2026, Ole Kina publicly backed ODM leader Oburu Oginga amid divisions within the party and called for unity among ODM members.
