Nairobi Senator and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has fired back at President William Ruto after insinuating that he can institute disciplinary action against him.
In a media interview on Thursday, April 24, Sifuna jokingly expressed his amusement at still being the party’s Secretary General, noting that the meeting to oust him, which the President promised to hold with the founders of the party, has not yet occurred.

“By the grace of God, it appears like that founders meeting has not happened yet,” Sifuna said.
Additionally, Sifuna said that whenever the meeting will occur, he will be disciplined.

“Whenever it happens, I will be disciplined,” Sifuna added.
Sifuna Claps Back at Ruto from Threatening to Oust Him as ODM Secretary General
The ODM Secretary General’s remarks come days after President Wiliam Ruto threatened to oust him as ODM’s Secretary General by having a meeting with the party founders a party which President Ruto was also part of the founders during its formation.

While speaking during the funeral of Raila Odinga’s longtime aide on Saturday April 12 2025, George Oduor, held at Ramba High School in Siaya County, President Ruto appeared agitated after Sifuna urged him to reconsider keeping members of his administration who consistently fall short in fulfilling their responsibilities, as they often bring embarrassment to his government.
Ruto Threatens to Oust Nairobi Senator from ODM party
Sifuna’s remark followed the controversy surrounding Butere Girls High School’s play, “Echoes of War,” which he suggested several state officials frustrated the girls leading the play not to be performed at t the Kenya National Drama and Film Festivals.
“I’ve heard Sifuna speaking forcefully. When you’re talking about my matters, Sifuna, know that I am the founder of ODM, so take it a bit easy.
We are the ones who started this thing. And you know, if you push me too hard, I will call a meeting of the ODM founder members… if we call that meeting to discipline you, we who started the party. So let’s go slowly-slowly,” said the President.

For some time now, the Nairobi Senator has faced criticism from a section of senior ODM party members including Homabay Town MP Peter Kaluma, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed due to his remarks about the Broad-based government led by President Ruto and Raila Odinga.
Some of these senior members have even threatened to oust him. However, on several occasions, ODM has clarified that it does not intend to remove him, insisting that party members have the freedom to express their opinions.
