A man has surfaced claiming to be the biological father of Kennedy Onyango, a 12-year-old boy who died after being shot by police during anti-government protests in Ongata Rongai.
The man, Denis Okinyi, has laid claim on the body of the boy, stating that he only learnt of his son’s death through social media.
Further, he said that he had not yet been allowed to view the body of his son, who he says he raised on his own in Suba Constituency.
Additionally, he now wants the boy to be buried in Suba, where he was born and raised. Denis and Kennedy’s mother divorced and went on to live separate lives.

“Since I learnt of his death to date, I have not seen him. I want to see him and confirm that he is actually dead.
“His mother abandoned him since 2015 to date. I raised him and took him to school until 2022. She came and took him away and brought him to Nairobi,” he said.

Kennedy’s Mother Insists on Burying her son
On the other hand, Jacinta Onyango, the mother of the deceased, started a new life with another partner, who also lays claim on Kennedy Onyango.
Michael Ouma, the husband of Jacinta, has said that they are the parents of the boy, and they deserve to bury him.
“We are taking the body home to Rusinga Highland in Homabay County,” the mother asserted.
However, Denis has engaged the services of a lawyer, who believes that the biological father deserves to bury the child in his ancestral home.
“They have cancelled the road transport and booked the air transport so that the boy can be buried faster than the father can get justice. We are going to fight for the justice of this child,” said the lawyer.

Autopsy Report Reveals what killed Kennedy Onyango
An autopsy report conducted by government pathologist Peter Ndegwa revealed that Kennedy Onyango died of excessive bleeding.
Ndegwa further revealed that the postmortem examination indicated that the minor was shot once in his shoulder despite reports that he had been shot eight times.
Furthermore, the pathologist stated that the nature of the bullet wound indicated that it was fired from a long range.
“We have concluded that the cause of death is severe hemorrhage, he has one bullet which has entered from the right side of the body to the left side of the body through both axillar,
“It further shuttered the arteries and the veins in both the axillar areas and then perforated his two lungs,” Ndegwa said.
