Top Private Schools That Posted Impressive Results in KCSE 2024

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba on Thursday, January 9, announced the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) 2024 results, with parents, teachers, and school heads celebrating outstanding performances in both private and public schools.

The 2024 candidates showed significant improvement compared to the previous year. The Kenya Times highlights private schools that posted stellar KCSE results.

One of the top-performing private schools in the 2024 KCSE exams is Moi Kabarak High School, which achieved a mean grade of B+ (9.8904), with 99% of its students transitioning to university.

Kabarak students were also among the top national scorers, with several earning impressive results.

Private Schools that Posted good results in KCSE 2024

Among them were Muturi Eric Muigai and Masika Shalom, who were tied after scoring A plain with 84 points.

Other top scorers from the school included Henry Kariuki Kinyua, Daniela Chelang’at, Emmanuel Kipchirchir, Kareithi Daren, Ryan Maganga, and Nicoletta Hadida, all scoring A plains with 83 points.

Overall, the school posted the following results:

  • 34 A plains
  • 104 A minuses (A-)
  • 83 B pluses (B+)
  • 84 B plains (B)
  • 34 B minuses (B-)
  • 13 C pluses (C+)

Another private school that performed exceptionally well was Sunshine Secondary School in Nairobi, which posted a mean grade of 9.25, its best performance in seven years, according to the school principal, Sally Kiprop.

Speaking to the press after the results were released, Kiprop shared the following breakdown of results:

  • 11 A plains (A)
  • 31 A minuses (A-)
  • 58 B pluses (B+)
  • 53 B plains(B)

Strathmore High School among schools that performed well

Strathmore School also excelled, posting a mean grade of 10.51. Among the notable individual performers was Imani Mathenge, son of East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Kanini Kega, who scored an A minus.

In Mombasa County, Sheikh Khalifa Secondary School recorded a mean grade of 9.13 with the following results:

  • 56 B plains (B)
  • 40 B minuses (B-)
  • 14 C pluses (C+)
  • 5 C plains (C)
  • 1 C minus (C-) 

Pioneer Girls School also posted commendable results, with a 94% transition to university. The school’s results were as follows:

  • 1 A plain (A)
  • 2 A minuses (A-)
  • 13 B pluses (B+)
  • 12 B plains (B) 
  • 21 B minuses B-)
  • 18 C pluses (C+)

According to data released by Education CS Julius Ogamba, out of 962,512 candidates who sat for the KCSE, private schools enrolled 59,631 students.

Private schools had a total 18,058 students scoring C+ and above, qualifying for direct university admission.

  • Grade B: 3,576 students 
  • Grade B-: 5,826 students 
  • Grade C+: 6,362 students

  • Grade D+: 5,835 students 
  • Grade D: 7,688 students 
  • Grade D-: 10,723 students 
  • Grade E: 5,782 students
