The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has clinched an early victory after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared their candidates’ winners unopposed in two ward by-elections ahead of the November 27, 2025, polls.
The IEBC declared a no-contest outcome for the Tembelio and Metkei Ward by-elections, scheduled for November 27, 2025.
This announcement was published in Gazette Notice No. 15732, dated 29th October 2025.
“IN EXERCISE of the powers conferred by Articles 88 (4) and 177 (1) (a) of the Constitution, section 4 of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Act, Section 13 (3), 19 of the Elections Act, 2011 and Part III, VIII and IX and Regulation 51 (2), (4) and (5) and 53 of the Elections (General) Regulations, 2012, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission makes a declaration of no contest and the persons listed in the 7th and 8th Columns,” read part of the gazette notice dated October 29, by the IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon
In the notice, the IEBC confirmed that only one candidate was validly nominated in each ward.
Reuben Kigen Tobosei was declared elected for Tembelio Ward in Moiben Constituency, Uasin Gishu County, while Philip Kipkosgei Kipruto was declared elected for Metkei Ward in Keiyo South Constituency, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
UDA Celebrates Early Success
Following the announcement, UDA issued a public congratulatory message welcoming the news.
“UDA party candidates, Reuben Kigen Tobosei (Tembelio Ward, Uasin Gishu County) and Philip Kipkosgei Kiprutto (Metkei Ward, Elgeyo Marakwet County) have been duly elected unopposed,” they confirmed.

The party hailed the significance of the early win for both candidates ahead of the official polling date.
“Congratulations to the UDA Party and the newly elected leaders on this early victory,” read part of the party’s statement.
About the November by-elections
The IEBC will hold by-elections on November 27, 2025, to fill the vacant seats in Parliament and various County Assemblies that have been declared vacant due to resignations, deaths, or appointments to new roles.
Campaigns are underway, and the electoral commission has assured the public of readiness and transparency.

The vacancies to be filled include one open Senate seat for Baringo County and six National Assembly constituencies (Banissa, Kasipul, Magarini, Malava, Mbeere North, and Ugunja).
Additionally, 17 Member of County Assembly (MCA) positions are up for contest in wards across multiple counties.
These include Chewani (Tana River), Fafi (Garissa), Mumbuni North (Machakos), Lake Zone and Nanaam (Turkana), Angata Nanyokie (Samburu), Tembeilo (Uasin Gishu), Metkei (Elgeyo Marakwet), Chemundu (Nandi), Narok Town (Narok), Purko (Kajiado), Kisa East (Kakamega), Nyamaiya, Ekerenyo, and Nyansiongo (Nyamira), Kariobangi North (Nairobi), and Kabuchai (Bungoma).
