United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala has issued a statement regarding a poster circulating on social media, which suggests that he has resigned from his position.
Malala dismissed the reports and urged the public to ignore them. He emphasized that UDA remains committed to supporting President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza government in achieving its manifesto.
“Ignore propaganda. The party is stable and focused on helping President William Ruto achieve his agenda for Kenya. Chama iko Imara (The party is strong),” Malala said.
The poster alleged that Malala had stepped down from his position as UDA Secretary General effective immediately after a period of deep personal reflection on the current state of the party and the broader political landscape.
Claims that Malala Has Resigned
According to the poster, the decision was also influenced by the working relationship between President Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
“Over recent months, I have observed a series of troubling developments that compel me to take this step. The political harlotry that has unfolded, including the recent alignment of Raila Odinga with the government through unconventional means, has created an environment of instability and disillusionment. This move, which undermines the democratic process and the principles we stand for, has deeply disturbed me,” the poster stated.
Additionally, the poster mentioned that the challenges within the UDA party have become increasingly pronounced, with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who should have been a pillar of support, largely disengaged.
The reports suggested that Gachagua’s lack of proactive involvement has hindered UDA’s ability to effectively address the pressing issues facing the nation and the ruling party.
“The current administration is characterized by a troubling trend of isolationism. We have witnessed a president who seems more inclined to listen to his own voice rather than the diverse perspectives and needs of the Kenyan people. This approach has led to a disconnect between the government and the citizens it is meant to serve,” the poster indicated.
Furthermore, the poster described the party as sharply divided, exacerbated by the actions of the party Chairperson.
“As I step down, I remain committed to supporting the values of democracy and good governance. I will continue to advocate for the issues that matter most to our nation and work towards a more united and effective political landscape,” read another part of the flagged poster.

Gachagua Impeachment
This controversy arises amid reports of an impeachment plot by a section of UDA politicians against DP Gachagua who appears to have fallen out with key leaders in the Kenyan Kwanza Alliance.
He has been accused of disrespecting the president and promoting tribalism by focusing on Mt. Kenya at the expense of other regions.
Nyeri County Governor Mutahi Kahiga, Gachagua’s close ally, defended him saying that the accusations are baseless.
Kahiga said Kenyans should be applauding Gachagua for opposing the Finance Bill in cabinet instead of pushing to have him removed from office.
“I want to say that we have heard, and we have seen efforts to bring an impeachment motion against the Deputy President of Kenya based on very weak claims. They accused him of opposing the Finance Bill during a cabinet meeting,” Governor Mutahi noted.

Kahiga said the DP has a strong connection with the people on the grassroot as opposed to those calling for his impeachment.
“Whoever feels that that is the way to go, we kindly tell them to bring it on, we will deal with it when the time comes,” he stated.
On his side, the DP has been accusing some leaders allied to President Ruto of undermining him and promoting chaos in the Mt. Kenya region.
However, Gachagua has consistently dismissed reports of bad blood between him and the president.
