Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has given the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Kenya Police a seven-day ultimatum to probe a security incident near his home on Sunday, November 30, 2025.
On the said date, a single gunshot was fired near Wamatangi’s family residence in Kibiku village, Kabete Constituency, Kiambu County, the bullet striking a neighbor’s home that’s just a few meters away.
According to accounts, the single bullet penetrated a children’s bedroom, hurting no one, but leaving a raised alarm about potential threats to Wamatangi’s life, as he is the alleged primary target of the attack.
“We must know clearly, without anything being hidden, who fired the bullet, where they shot from, the intention and the reason must be established,” he said.
Wamatangi expressed dissatisfaction with the local police’s initial response and lack of communication, calling for the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, to personally oversee the probe.

“This bullet, according to the experts, although we are still waiting for the final report, was fired from a large rifle, similar to an AK-47. Since the bullet is here and not hidden, it can be examined to determine what kind of gun it came from and who was issued with that weapon,” he said yesterday.
Link to Ruto’s Visit
Kimani Wamatangi argued that the incident could have stemmed from a political motivation point.
The shooting came just days after Wamatangi joined President Ruto on November 28, 2025, for the launch of the Rironi-Nakuru-Mau Summit Highway.
“Joined H.E. President William Samoei Ruto at Manguo in Limuru during the launching of the 170-kilometre Rironi–Nakuru–Mau Summit Highway,” his post on Facebook read.
During the launch, Wamatangi’s arrival was met with so much warmth and jubilation, something that may have unsettled his competitors.
Governor Wamatangi’s political differences this year
Governor Wamatangi had a feud with the national government over control of four major Kiambu markets, including Githurai and Kawangware, highlighting devolution disputes.

- In the health sector, Kiambu doctors downed tools for over 120 days, with the Kenya Medical Practitioners Union (KMPDU) accusing Wamatangi’s administration of ignoring court orders, delaying salaries, and mismanaging funds, even calling for his ouster and President Ruto’s intervention.
- In October 2025, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) pursued Wamatangi to recover over Ksh813 million linked to irregular road tenders awarded to his associated companies during his time as Senate Roads Committee Chair.
Earlier in April this year, in what the governor referred to as a witch-hunt, raids recovered Ksh13.7 million in cash from his home, and he was released after questioning.
Wamatangi was elected governor of Kiambu in 2022, after serving as a Senator. Since 2013, Kiambu County has had four governors.
William Kabogo, who currently serves as ICT Cabinet Secretary, was the pioneer governor before he was dethroned by Ferdinand Waititu, popularly known as Baba Yao.
However, Waititu’s tenure ended prematurely when the County Assembly impeached him, a decision the Senate upheld, sealing his fate. James Nyoro, who was his deputy, took over until 2022.
