The Office of the Attorney General has declared vacancies in the Waqf Commission and invited qualified individuals to apply for appointments as members of the body.
In a public notice issued by the State Law Office on June 5, 2026, the Selection Panel for the Appointment of Members of the Waqf Commission announced that the recruitment process aims to fill various positions in the commission, which is established under the Waqf Act.
“The selection panel invites applications from qualified persons for appointment as members of the Waqf Commission,” read part of the notice.
The commission is responsible for managing waqf (charitable endowment) properties, including registering, administering, and overseeing their use, as well as formulating policies and collecting charitable contributions such as zakat.
According to the notice, successful candidates will serve in a part-time capacity for five years, with a possible reappointment for one additional term. Members will also receive allowances as determined by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.
Vacancies Available in the Waqf Commission
The Selection Panel Commission announced a total of eight vacancies in the commission, including:
- One position for an alim (Islamic scholar)
- One position for a prominent businessperson or entrepreneur
- Six positions for individuals with professional or technical expertise
The professional vacancies are open to individuals with qualifications in fields such as law, accounting, land economics, social work, finance and investment, architecture, and administration.

Waqf Commission Vacancies Requirements
Those applying must meet specific requirements depending on the vacancy category.
Islamic Scholar Position
For the Islamic Scholar slot, the applicant must be well-versed in Islamic jurisprudence.
In addition, the applicant must hold a master’s degree in Islamic studies or equivalent and have at least 15 years’ experience as a Muslim religious scholar.
The person must also meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
Businessperson/Entrepreneur Position
Under the businessperson category, the applicant must be a Kenyan citizen.
Applicants seeking this slot must be a senior business leader (owner, CEO, director, or partner)
In addition, they must be associated with a business with an annual turnover of at least Ksh 500 million and also meet Chapter Six requirements.
Experience in philanthropy and community welfare is an added advantage.

Professional/Technical Position
Applicant must be a Kenyan citizen.
Must hold at least a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Must have at least five years’ professional experience.
Qualifications in Islamic studies will be an added advantage.
Applicant must also meet Chapter Six of the Constitution

Applicants are required to submit:
- A complete application form is available on the Attorney General’s website (www.statelaw.go.ke)
- A detailed curriculum vitae
- Copies of national identity card, academic and professional certificates, certificates of good standing from relevant professional bodies, testimonials and supporting documents, audited accounts (for business applicants), and recognition certificates for foreign qualifications (where applicable)
Applications must be clearly marked “Application for the Position of Member of the Waqf Commission” and addressed to the chairperson of the selection panel for the appointment of members to the Waqf Commission, CBK Pension Towers, Harambee Avenue, 20th Floor.
Application Deadline
All interested candidates have been directed to forward their applications to the selection panel by 5:00 pm on 26th June 2026.
