The National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetangula, has announced that Parliament will prioritize the reconstitution of the Independent and Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after recess.
While speaking in a church service at Chebukwa Catholic Church in Bungoma County on September 15, Wetangula emphasized that there is a need to reconstitute the IEBC to avoid further delays on boundary reviews or pending by-elections in wards and constituencies.
He also urged those filing petitions to court about IEBC reconstitution to reconsider their decision.
“One of our priorities after the resumption will be the reconstitution of the IEBC, a matter crucial for the country’s progress,” he stated.
Wetangula’s Plea
I urge those obstructing this process to reconsider their stance and allow the country to move forward,” Wetangula added.
Wetangula equally appealed to the Chief Justice to expedite the court cases related to the IEBC reconstitution.
His statement comes months after President William Ruto assented to the IEBC Bill which was to help in preparation for the appointment of the chairperson and commissioners of the electoral body ahead of Kenya’s 2027 election.
The reconstitution of the IEBC was also among the recommendations in the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) Report, chaired by Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, which the President assented to on the same day he signed the IEBC Bill.
