Who Runs Kenya Power? Full List of KPLC’s Top Leaders

The Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) is led by a Board of Directors and an Executive Management team responsible for providing strategic direction, overseeing the company’s operations and driving its long-term growth.

Currently, Kenya Power, which is mandated to transmit, distribute and retail electricity across the country, is implementing a five-year corporate strategy focused on financial sustainability, customer focus, operational excellence and human capital development.

The implementation of this strategy is being led by the company’s Board of Directors, Executive Management and Regional Management teams.

Kenya Power Board of Directors

1. Joy Brenda Masinde

According to the 2025 Integrated Annual Report, Kenya Power’s Board is chaired by Joy Brenda Masinde, an advocate and member of the Law Society of Kenya who was appointed Board Chairperson on December 16, 2022. She holds Bachelor of Laws (LL.B), Master of Laws (LL.M), Diploma in Law, and Certified Public Secretary qualifications and is aged 48 years.

2. Dr. (Eng.) Joseph Siror, FIEK

Managing Director & CEO

Siror was appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer on May 2, 2023. The electrical engineer holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Bachelor of Laws, MBA, and PhD in Engineering. He is a registered engineer, Fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (FIEK), and a member of the Law Society of Kenya and the East Africa Law Society. He is 60 years old

3. Hon. FCPA John Mbadi, EGH

Cabinet Secretary, National Treasury and Economic Planning

Mbadi joined the Kenya Power Board after his appointment as Cabinet Secretary in August 2024. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree and is a Certified Public Accountant and member of ICPAK. He represents the National Treasury on the Board.

4. Alex Wachira, CBS

Principal Secretary, State Department for Energy

Wachira serves on the Board as the Energy Ministry representative. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and an MBA in Leadership and was appointed Principal Secretary in December 2022.

5. Eng. James Rege, CBS

Independent Director

Rege is an electrical engineer with decades of experience in the energy and infrastructure sectors. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Engineering and joined the Board in December 2023.

6. Eng. Albert Mugo

Non-Independent Director

Mugo is an electrical engineer and business leader with extensive experience in the power sector. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and an MBA in Strategic Management and joined the Board in December 2022.

7. Logan Hambrick

Independent Director

Hambrick is an advocate with a background in law and political science. She brings experience in human rights and governance and has served on the Board since December 2022.

8. Ezekiel Saina, HSC

Independent Director

Saina is an ICT and risk management professional. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and an MBA in Strategic Management and has experience in governance, business process re-engineering and digital transformation.

9. Ruth Muiruri

Independent Director

Muiruri is an advocate and corporate governance professional. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree, a Diploma in Law and an MBA in Strategic Management and joined the Board in December 2023.

10. CPA Dr. Caleb B. Manyaga

Independent Director

Dr. Manyaga is an accountant and financial management expert. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, MBA in Financial Management, and PhD in Business Administration. He joined the Board on December 8, 2023 and is 70 years old.

11. Dr. (Eng.) Isaac Kiva, MBS, FIEK

Alternate Director to the Principal Secretary, Energy

Kiva is an electrical engineer with experience in renewable energy. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, MSc in Energy Technology, and a PhD. He joined the Board on April 25, 2024 and is aged 57 years.

12. Dr. Stephen Ikikii

Alternate Director to the Cabinet Secretary, National Treasury

Ikikii holds a BSc in Mathematics, MSc in Economics and PhD in Economics. The economist joined the Board on December 20, 2024 and is aged 47 years.

13. Imelda Bore

Company Secretary

Bore serves as General Manager for Legal, Regulatory Affairs and Company Secretary. She is an advocate, member of the Law Society of Kenya and Institute of Certified Secretaries. She has served as Company Secretary since August 2018.

Kenya Power’s regional operations are overseen by:

• Dr. (Eng.) Ariel Mutegi – Regional Manager, Mount Kenya
• Eng. Hicks Waswa – Regional Manager, Nairobi
• Eng. Kennedy Ogalo – Regional Manager, Western
• Eng. Mary Kirui – Regional Manager, North Rift
• Daniel Kipkoech – Regional Manager, Central Rift
• Eng. Dan Obiero – Regional Manager, South Nyanza
• Erick Langat – Acting Regional Manager, Coast
• Eng. Simon Kamau – Acting Regional Manager, North Eastern.

The leadership team oversaw a year in which Kenya Power reported a pre-tax profit of KSh35.37 billion, connected 401,848 new customers, grew electricity sales to 11,403 GWh, improved customer satisfaction to 72 per cent, and reduced system losses from 23.16 per cent to 21.21 per cent. The company also surpassed 10 million customers during the financial year.
