The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) has approved the reservation of the name Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM), clearing a key hurdle for the political outfit as it moves to formalize its structures.
In a letter dated October 1, 2026, Registrar of Political Parties and CEO Cox Lorionokou informed Bansbury Associates Advocates, who represented the applicants, that the application to reserve the name had been approved.
The approval follows a judgment in the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal case PPDTA/E001/2026, Michael Caroli Omondi & Another vs Registrar of Political Parties.
ORPP Approves Linda Mwananchi Movement Name After Tribunal Ruling
“Pursuant to the judgment in PPDTA/E001/2026 Michael Caroli Omondi & Another Vs Registrar of Political Parties and Section 8 of the PPA, your application for the name Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM) has been approved,” Lorionokou said in the letter.
The Registrar added that the reservation would remain valid for a period of not more than 90 days from the date of the letter.
The development comes a day after the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT)Â set aside the decision by the Registrar of Political Parties declining to reserve the name Linda Mwananchi Movement and ordered the Registrar to reserve the name within seven days.
In its orders, the Tribunal found that the Registrar’s decision to decline the reservation of the name was without legal justification and amounted to a denial of the applicants’ right to form or participate in the formation of a political party.

PPDT declared the decision by the Registrar of Political Parties to reject the reservation of the name Linda Mwananchi as unlawful and unconstitutional.
“The decision by the Registrar declining to reserve the name Linda Mwananchi is hereby set aside,” the Tribunal ordered.
It further directed the Registrar to reconsider the application for the reservation of the Linda Mwananchi Movement name and abbreviation LMM.

ORPP had blocked the Sifuna-led movement from reserving the name LINDA after it found that another party with the initials was already registered.
According to the tribunal, ORPP lacked legal justification and breached provisions of the Political Parties Act when it blocked the reservation and registration of the party.
The orders followed a dispute involving Caroli Omondi, Pauline Njoroge and Faith Odhiambo, who identified themselves as founders of the Linda Mwananchi Movement.
The applicants had challenged the Registrar’s refusal to reserve the name Linda Mwananchi Movement and its abbreviation, LLM, and sought orders compelling the Registrar to approve and reserve the name in their favour.
