A 34-year-old woman is being held at Tarassa police station in Tana River for allegedly burning her six-year-old cousin’s private parts.
According to a police report, the accused named Zawadi Mtela assaulted her kin, Alex John Mencha as a punishment after he had wet the bed.
The event occurred on Friday, 29, 2024 when Zawadi used burning papers to commit the heinous act.
“At around 0700 hours, his cousin Zawadi Mlewa aged 34 years burnt his private parts using burning papers for wetting his bed. He sustained burns on the base of his penis,” read the police statement in part.
After the incident, the accused took the victim to Tarasaa Catholic Dispensary for treatment then he was discharged later. Zawadi was apprehended after the matter was reported at Tarassa police station.

After being issued with a filed P3 form at the station, the six-year-old boy was later referred to Ngao sub-County Hospital for further checkup.

As per the police statements, Alex had been left under the care of his aunt, Bahati John with whom they were staying together with his cousin. His mother, Lina John had travelled to Saudi Arabia for work.
The suspect will remain in custody till April,2,2024 in which she’ll be arraigned in court.

In 2022 a woman allegedly burnt his son’s hand for stealing food. Police arrested the 23-year-old woman from Homa Bay county who tied her son’s hands using a string from a nylon sack before setting it ablaze on his hands.
This is after she was informed that her son allegedly broke into the neighbor’s house and ate fried liver.
Elsewhere, a 22-year-old girl is fighting for her life in hospital after her boyfriend scolded her with hot oil following a disagreement. Speaking on a hospital bed, the lady recalled her normal before she suffered the burn injuries.

“He has destroyed my face. I don’t know where to start from. Even when I get out of here, I don’t know whether I will ever heal,” she emotionally narrated.
She is currently undergoing treatment at Jocham private hospital in Mombasa after a transfer from Mombasa General Hospital due to the ongoing Nationwide Doctors’ strike.
