List of Multibillion Property Owned by Aga Khan

Prince Karim Al-Hussaini, also known as Aga Khan IV, one of the wealthiest individuals in the world, died on February 4, 2025, at the age of 88. He died in Lisbon, Portugal, surrounded by his family.

As the 49th hereditary Imam of the Ismaili Muslims, he dedicated much of his life to improving the quality of life for people around the globe.

His philanthropic efforts were primarily carried out through the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), which operates in over 30 countries.

Through AKDN, Aga Khan IV focused on various sectors, including healthcare, education, cultural preservation, economic growth, and social development.

He established hospitals and clinics to provide quality healthcare, built schools and universities to enhance educational access, restored historic sites to preserve cultural heritage, initiated economic development projects, and promoted social inclusion through various community programs.

In addition to his philanthropic work, Aga Khan IV amassed a substantial portfolio of properties, including luxury hotels, real estate, private estates, and investments in the tourism sector.

Communications and Media Company Owned by Aga Khan

  • Nation Media Group: Founded in 1959, Nation Media Group is East Africa’s leading independent media organization, owning influential publications and broadcasting outlets such as Daily Nation, Sunday Nation, Business Daily, and NTV Kenya. Listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange, NMG also has subsidiaries in Uganda.

Aga Khan IV had significant investments in the banking and finance sector, including:

  • Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) Kenya Ltd – Nairobi (Banking)
  • Jubilee Holdings Ltd – Nairobi (Life and General Insurance)

Hospitality and Tourism

Aga Khan IV owned a majority stake in Serena Hotels through his investment company TPS Eastern Africa, after purchasing an additional 2.42% stake.
