A Nairobi man has been slapped with a 45-year jail term for defiling a two-year-old girl.
Erastus Kariuki confessed to committing the crime.
He told the court that it was an evil spirit that entered his body and made him commit the crime.
Kariuki confessed to intentionally defiling the minor on July 3 2022 in Zimmerman area of Nairobi.
Based on the victim reports, Milimani Senior principal magistrate Wandia Nyamu sentenced Kariuki to 45 years behind bars .
Kariuki claimed that he was bewitched and that’s the reason he decided to defile the minor.

According to the prosecution, Kariuki defiled the girl within a church compound
Earlier on, Kariuki had attended a service at the church and even gave his offering.
The girl’s mother heard her daughter screaming and ran out to check only to find Kariuki defiling her .
Terrified,she grabbed her child from his lap and alerted church members who apprehended him.
Some members of the church rescued him from the mob that wanted to kill him and took him to Kasarani police station .
The child was rushed to a city hospital where she was admitted for correctional surgery.
