President William Ruto has pleaded with Chief Justice Martha Koome to intervene in cases where some individuals are opposing and challenging government policies and agendas.
Speaking during the 12-year celebration of the Supreme Court on Monday, November 4, the Head of State said that the matter has been on his mind.
According to Ruto, some of the opposition the government gets is done by anonymous people online whose true agenda is unknown.
“We live in a very dynamic world and it is not always that I find an occasion where I am before the chief justice, DCJ of the supreme court as a citizen, to try and speak to the issues that sometimes engage my mind.
“One of the issues I want to say is that where you have social media and all manner of pressures sometimes from anonymous people, characters, who nobody knows what is their push,” said Ruto.

Ruto Argues that Millions of Kenyans Support Govt Policies
The head of state explained that policies are made and implemented by a government that was elected based on its manifesto.
Further, he noted that the manifesto was voted for by millions of Kenyans, and they therefore support the government’s plans. Consequently, he asked the CJ to consider the weight of the manifesto and its place in such cases.
“What happens for example with a government that has been elected on the basis of a manifesto? What is the place of the manifesto?

“A program that has been voted for by millions of Kenyans alongside a party and candidate. What weight does the court put when there is a challenge on a manifesto? I want to invite the court to think about it.” added Ruto.

Also, he argued that some people who challenge government policies do so for political reasons and while some of the programs rolled out may not be popularly accepted, the court should think through the decision it makes.
“How do you respond to individuals who challenge a policy and manifesto position canvased among the citizens of Kenya and voted by the people of Kenya, and how do we use the manifesto to remove politics of personalities,
“A national program is backstopped by the people of Kenya and rolled out by an elected government, and sometimes if you have a program canvased by a political party or government being rolled out, it may not be populists.
“The court can decide to be popular and undermine the agenda that you have. I am just trying to put my thoughts across so that the courts can help us.”
