Former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga has drawn a striking comparison between President William Ruto and the late Ugandan dictator Idi Amin during his address at the Citizen’s Assembly at Ufungamano House in Nairobi on July 12.
In his remarks, Mutunga expressed concerns over Ruto’s leadership style, especially in relation to his recent outreach efforts to the youth.
“Apparently, President Ruto is going around looking for GenZ. This reminds me of Idi Amin going to the General Bank looking for one of the workers who was never around in Uganda that they wanted to kill him,” Mutunga said,
This highlights a sense of fear and authoritarianism reminiscent of Amin’s brutal regime.

He further added that the GenZ have make a step to start a revolution urging them to emphasize on the needs of Kenyans.
“I want to praise you for bringing life into the constitution and keep your eyes on the price.” he added.
Idi Amin was a Ugandan military officer who ruled Uganda as a dictator from 1971 to 1979.
Known for his brutal regime, Amin’s rule was marked by widespread human rights abuses, political repression, ethnic persecution, and extrajudicial killings.
His expulsion of Asians from Uganda in 1972 crippled the economy. Amin’s erratic behavior and policies isolated Uganda internationally.
He was overthrown in 1979 and lived in exile until his death in 2003. Idi Amin is remembered for his ruthless dictatorship, which left a lasting impact on Uganda’s history and development.
LSK on Citizen’s Assembly
The assembly, attended by members of the public, focused on the current national issues amidst what is being termed as the Gen Z revolution.
Among the notable attendees was Faith Odhiambo, President of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).
Odhiambo emphasized the LSK’s commitment to supporting the citizens’ movement for change.
“LSK and all our partners have made the step to join all of you to join the path we want our country set,” Odhiambo said.
She further expressed gratitude to Kenyans for welcoming the LSK’s involvement in the national discourse. “Thank you for allowing us to be part of you,” she added.
The event took place a day after President Ruto dissolved his Cabinet, following widespread unrest and protests across the country.
