British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper has expressed concern over Israel’s recent actions in Lebanon, calling them “deeply damaging.”
Speaking to the Today Program on April 9, Yvette Cooper said the US-Iran ceasefire should be broadened to include Lebanon, warning that failure to do so could further destabilize the region.
“We want to see Lebanon included in the ceasefire. We want it extended to cover Lebanon, because otherwise that will destabilize the whole region,” she said.
At the same time, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has condemned any violation of the ceasefire between the United States and Iran.
She said the situation remains tense but offers a fragile opportunity for peace that must be protected.
“We have come within a step of the point of no return, but we now face a fragile prospect of peace that must be pursued with determination,” Meloni said.
On April 8, Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, Israel’s Chief of the General Staff, pledged to maintain operations against Hezbollah, noting that it will not compromise on northern security.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said it targeted Ali Yusuf Harshi, personal secretary and close advisor to Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem in Beirut.
In a statement on April 9, the Israeli forces stated that Harshi reportedly played a central role in managing and securing Qassem’s office.
In overnight operations, the IDF also struck two key transit routes north of the Litani River used by Hezbollah to move combat vehicles, rockets, and launch platforms.
Additionally, around 10 weapons depots, command centers, and launch sites linked to Hezbollah in southern Lebanon were targeted, the Israeli military said.
