President Willliam Ruto chaired a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, August 8 at the Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri County.
During the meeting, the cabinet sanctioned fresh registration for Inua Jamii beneficiaries including senior citizens, persons living with disability, and vulnerable households.
“In Keeping with the Administration’s commitment to securing the dignity of all citizens, and in honour of the contribution of our senior citizens; Cabinet sanctioned a fresh wave of registration of persons under the Inua Jamii Safety Net Programme.” Reads a dispatch from statehouse.
Moreover, the process of onboarding the registration of new members will begin on September 1, 2023.

According to the dispatch, Inua Jamii program currently benefits 1,233,129 Kenyans, including 353,000 Orphans and Vulnerable Children, 833,129 elderly citizens, and 47,000 persons with Severe Disabilities.
First Cabinet Meeting Held Outside Nairobi
The meeting at Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri County marked the first ever cabinet meeting in President Ruto’s administration to be held outside the capital city of Nairobi.

Furthermore, during the early morning meeting, the cabinet also considered several other bills, policies, state programmes and state interventions forming part of the Kenya Kwanza administration’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
According to the state, the transformative actions discussed during the cabinet meeting strengthens Kenya’s socio-economic fabric.
The cabinet office noted that the actions are aimed at fostering inter-generational equity through an improved framework for social protection coupled with the revival of State Corporations within the agriculture, petroleum, and energy sectors.
Other Transformative Actions Approved by the Cabinet
- The National Labour Migration Policy
- Upscaling of the Kenya Youth Empowerment and Opportunity Project (KYEOP) to the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Programme.
- The framework for duty free importation of raw materials for processing of animal feeds.
- They approved the programme for the revival and commercialization of State-owned Sugar Companies
- The proposal to revive and commercialize the National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOCK)
- The Cabinet approved the establishment of the Bomas International Convention Centre (BICC).
