The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has released the Biannual Energy & Petroleum Statistics Report for the Financial year 2025/2026.
The report has revealed key findings, including:
- Time when electricity is most consumed
- Electricity access in Kenya
- Electricity consumption by region
- Electricity Consumption by Category
EPRA Reveals High Electricity Consumption Time In Kenya
The demand for Kenya’s electricity continues to grow daily. Energy usage rose across most regions, reflecting increases in both residential and industrial electricity consumption.
According to the report, peak consumption occurs in the evening between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM when residential and commercial usage is highest.

At this time, blackouts also occur in different regions, showing the need of an effective energy management strategies to ensure a reliable supply during evening hours.
On 3rd December 2025, the country recorded a peak demand of 2,439.06 MW, up 150.68 MW from the same period in 2024.
The peak demand also showed a gradual upward trend from 2,362.29 MW in July to 2,439.06 MW in December.
EPRA Reports Growing Electricity Access
Electricity access in Kenya continues to expand, with the number of grid-connected customers increasing by 182,195 to 10,216,952.
This growth shows ongoing efforts by the government and utility providers to extend electricity to both urban and rural regions.
Increased connections also contribute to higher overall energy consumption, particularly during peak hours, as more households and businesses use electricity for lighting, heating, and other domestic and industrial purposes.
