Rosebella Maranga, a Professor of Zoology in Medical and Veterinary Entomology, is the current Vice Chancellor of Multimedia University (MMU), appointed in October 2024.
She is the longest-serving MMU Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration, Finance, and Planning, having served from 2014 until February 2024.
Rosebella holds a Bachelor of Education in Science from Kenyatta University, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Zoology from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), a Master of Management and Leadership from the Management University of Africa, and a Master of Science in Medical and Veterinary Entomology from the University of Nairobi.
Rosebella Maranga Family and Career Background
Rosebella Maranga was born on October 6, 1960, in Kisii, Kenya. She is the daughter of Orangi Oseko and Peris Nyaboke.

Rosebella is married to Charles Maranga Bagwasi, and the couple is blessed with one child.
From 2008 to 2012, Rosebella served as the founding Director of the Gender and Monitoring Centre at JKUAT and as the Chairperson of the Professors Forum from 2009 to 2012.
In JKUAT, Rosebella was the chairperson of the Department of Zoology for four years, and in 2003, she was appointed as the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Science at JKUAT in 2003.
Achievements
At MMU, under her leadership, the number of annual graduands has increased significantly from around 800 to over 2,000.
Rosebella Maranga founded the Gender and Monitoring Centre and held leadership positions in the Zoology Department and the Faculty of Science at JKUAT.
In 2009, she was awarded the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) by the Government of the Republic of Kenya and was later featured in Who’s Who in the World, 26th edition, published by the Board of Marquis Who’s Who.

Additionally, in 2005, Rosebella Maranga was recognized as the International Educator of the Year by the International Biographic Centre in Cambridge, England.
As a VC, she has fostered collaborations with the Kenyan government and international partners, leading to the establishment of the Affordable Housing Programme for new student hostels and the paving of a footpath to Rongai Town by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).
