The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced the closure of UN-Avenue, Runda citing heavy rains experienced on Sunday, May 5 night.
KURA noted that rising water levels deemed it necessary to close the road.
As such, the sections affected are between off Ruaka Road round about and Magnolia close.
“The Kenya Urban Roads Authority regrets to inform the public that UN-Avenue, Runda has been closed due to the rising water levels on the road following the heavy downpour experienced last night,” stated KURA.
“The sections affected are between off Ruaka Road round about and Magnolia close. (The Lord Erroll Restaurant).”
The roads authority in a statement on Monday, May 6, stated that they are closely monitoring the situation and will give an update on the progress.
They further called on motorists using the road to use alternative routes.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and will update on the progress. We urge Motorists to use alternative routes and exercise caution,” reads the statement in part.

Heavy Rains Leading to Closure of Roads
On May 2, KeNHA announced the temporary closure of Nakuru- Eldoret Road (A8) following the destruction by storm water.
The road was closed at Timboroa market.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority regrets to notify the public of the closure of Nakuru – Eldoret (A8) Road at Timboroa Market,” KeNHA said in a statement.
“This follows the destruction by storm water this morning which left a section of the road exhibiting signs of a possible collapse.”
Therefore, the authority advised motorists to use alternative routes including Nakuru-Eldama Ravine-Eldoret and the Mau Summit-Kisumu Road.
The road was then opened for use on Sunday May 5 following the completion of remedial works at Timboroa.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority is pleased to inform the public the Nakuru – Eldoret (A8) Highway is now open to traffic. This follows completion of remedial works at Timboroa,” KeNHA said in a statement.
In addition, River Nyando in Kisumu County burst its banks due to the heavy rainfall experienced in various parts of the county resulting into floods that destroyed property, submerged homes and businesses in Ahero town on May 4 night.
The overflow also submerged the Ahero Bridge, which serves as a crucial link on the Kisumu-Nairobi Highway, halting transportation in the area.
This caused traffic snurl up forcing police officers to manage the area ensuring smooth flow of traffic along the road.
