A family in Maweni, Kilifi County is in pain over the demise of their kin. The incident has raised several questions since it is alleged that the 17-year-old boy was shot dead after police stormed a wedding.
The bereaved family while speaking to the media on October 30, 2024, revealed that the post-mortem report confirms the allegations over their son’s death.
Speaking to the media the father sorrowfully narrated, “I am very saddened because my son had gone to a wedding with his friends. While they were there, the police arrived, and as they were trying to escape, he was shot and fell, leading to his death.”
He further added, “We have come for a post-mortem, and it indicates that he was shot from the back and the bullet exited from the front.”
Furthermore, the father called on the government and relevant authorities to take into account the police involved in the alleged murder.
At the same time, the circumstances surrounding the death of this 17-year-old boy have sparked outrage from the public as they call for a speedy investigation.
Moreover, the circumstances of the incident are unclear, prompting demands for accountability from community members and human rights advocates.

Events Before the Killing by Police
Before the late met his end narrates that it was around 10 pm when the unfortunate happened. The alleged victim was at the wedding event at the time of occurrence.
“What is surprising me is the step that the police took even though it is reported that the children ran when they saw the police,” one of the family members recounted.
“I also do not think that the police intended to offer protection. If that was the case, they should have shot into the air and not directly on the kids,”
The family together with the human rights organizations have cursed the incident while calling for justice over the death of the minor.
Moreover, the family has lamented over his death since the deceased was a grade seven pupil noting that his dreams have been cut shot.

Haki Africa Organization
One of the human rights defenders from HAKI Africa, a pan-African human rights organization based in Mombasa, Kenya has called on the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to collaborate with them to investigate the issue so that justice is rendered to the family.
Despite this, the United Nations Human Rights document adopted on September 7, 1990, provides basic principles on the use of force and firearms by law enforcement officials.
One of the provisions states that Governments and law enforcement agencies shall adopt and implement rules and regulations on the use of force and firearms against persons by law enforcement officials.
In addition, the document further outlines that in developing such rules and regulations, Governments and law enforcement agencies shall keep the ethical issues associated with the use of force and firearms constantly under review.
