The government has moved to reorganize security teams in Isiolo, Samburu, and Laikipia counties to respond faster to threats, open new security roads, and improve network coverage.
The move is part of an intensified crackdown on crime and cattle rustling in the North Rift and Upper Eastern regions.
Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, said the operation comes amid fears that the prolonged drought in pastoralist areas could trigger resource conflicts and reverse gains made under previous interventions, including Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU).

On the third day of a regional security assessment tour, CS Murkomen convened a meeting with local leaders, National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs), and senior security officials in Isiolo.
They resolved to launch targeted operations against illegal firearms, ammunition, criminals, and their sponsors.
The Isiolo operations follow similar measures in Kainuk, Turkana County, where ongoing disarmament drives aim to curb banditry.
“We have made significant progress in restoring peace and normal life in many parts of the Kerio Valley region,” CS Murkomen said. “But some areas still require intensified interventions to eliminate criminal elements.”
He added that the government is launching a comprehensive operation in the area, including disarmament and the apprehension of perpetrators and their sponsors.

The multi-county operation aims to strengthen rapid-response capabilities, consolidate gains under OMU, and ensure that communities in the North Rift and Upper Eastern regions live free from crime and banditry.
The security team on the ground includes Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Deputy Inspector General – Administration Police Service (DIG-APS) Gilbert Masengeli, General Service Unit (GSU) Commandant Ranson Lolmodooni, and other senior officials.
Political leadership present included Governor Abdi Guyo, Deputy Governor James Lowasa, MPs Fatuma Dullo, Mumina Bonaya, Joseph Samal, and MCAs led by Speaker Abdullahi Jaldesa.
