As the political temperatures in the country continue to rise, Nakuru County governor Susan Kihika and a section of politicians allied to President William Ruto faced the wrath of a hostile crowd during a function in the County.
Governor Kihika on Friday, October 11, faced a hostile reception from residents gathered to send off Bahati Member of Parliament (MP) Irene Njoki’s brother Henry Gachie, after rising to read President Ruto’s message of condolence.

Kihika had taken to the stage to read the message sent by the head of state to the bereaved family, but was forced to plead for attention after the crowd became hostile.
Earlier, she had had a somewhat successful delivery of speech until she mentioned the President’s name, as the reality of the changing political environment hit her and the leaders.

In the video seen by The Kenya Times, governor Kihika can be heard reading the condolence message but as soon as she mentions Ruto’s name, the crowd starts jeering as the master of ceremony tries to calm them down.
“From His Excellency William Ruto, President of the Republic and Commander in Chief,” she says as jeers rent the air……”Please listen, yeah, it’s alright let’s listen,” governor Kihika adds, switching to the Kikuyu language, as the crowd gets more hostile.

“Let’s celebrate Gachie’s life. Let’s respect the late and his family, let me read the message to the family, alright?” added the governor.

“Nowadays you are fireworks… and we say we appreciate you for giving us good feedback,” added Kihika.
In addition, some MPs in attendance were forced to cut short their speeches or to completely go off topic when the crowd jeered them.
Ndia MP George Macharia’s efforts to preach the government’s gospel fell on deaf ears.
“All roads in Kenya, we shall upgrade them, mostly the roads that have stalled,” the Ndia MP states as the crowds starts jeering… “We shall complete them all,” he adds as his sentiments get absorbed by the jeers. He too was forced to retreat.
Although she got the attention of the mourners when she belted out her signature introduction, Kiambu woman representative Anne Wamuratha was forced to be a soloist after the mourners rejected her invitation to join in the popular Kikuyu song.
Other speakers such as Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi decided to stick to the more acceptable topics under the circumstances.
EALA MP Kanini Kega on his part distanced himself from local politics stating, “I don’t want to say much because I am always in Tanzania… so ask me about Tanzania, arusha, Somalia….”
The developments come at a time Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is facing an impeachment from office threat after 282 MPs voted in favor of a Special Motion seeking to oust him from office.
