As Kenyans continue to call for accountability in government, Activist Kebaso Morara has expressed his dissatisfaction with the notion that retired politicians should not be questioned if linked to the misappropriation of public funds.
In a statement, Morara has strongly urged Kenyans to refrain from the concept that retired politicians or leaders aligned with their communities should be left alone, calling for accountability among government officials.
“The notion that retired politicians should enjoy retirement in peace should stop. How can someone who stole public funds retire in peace? They should return the money before they can retire in peace,” he stated.
Morara expressed his frustration with how the citizenry defends leaders who have been embroiled in corruption scandals, adding that leaders should be held accountable for their actions while holding public office positions.
“A governor leaves office having stolen billions of money meant for healthcare, roads, streetlights, schools, and sewage. Then we start saying let him retire. He did his work. Which work? He stole from the people,” an outraged Morara added.
The activist, whose popularity has been on the rise as the civil society in Kenya grows following the Gen Z protests, took fault with those defending the former president Uhuru Kenyatta, stating that he should answer for the corruption scandals that marred his time in office instead of ignoring the matters.
” Am surprised when people keep saying Uhuru is now a retired president. Let’s not disturb him. He did his part, there is no need to awaken old grudges. It is time to move on. Which grudges? Is stealing public funds a grudge? Why are we letting Uhuru retire peacefully with Euro Bond, money for laptops, and the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) saga? There is no reason to let these people retire peacefully.”
Morara Calls for Action
Morara urged Kenyans to stop praising leaders known for their involvement in stealing public money and instead call for their prosecution and recovery of public funds.
“Let’s stop tolerating people who misappropriate money meant for the betterment of the country. If someone stole from the government, they should go straight to jail after office. Ruto belongs in prison after his time in government,” he added.

Additionally, he questioned Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua‘s motives in recent days, accusing him of using his community to propel his political ambitions.
“Saying that you are fighting for your community is a lie. You are using tribalism and lying that because you come from a given community, you care about Kenyans. Gachagua is fighting for his stomach,” Morara stated.
