The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced changes in the National Executive Committee (NEC) leadership.
In a statement on Friday, September 8, ODM said the changes were made due to resignations and defections by former holders of the positions.
In the changes seen by The Kenya Times, Kisii Governor Simba Arati replaced Janet Ong’era , former Kisii County Woman Representative, as the Deputy National Chairperson.
Former Busia Woman Representative, Florence Mutua, has been replaced by her successor Catherine Omanyo as the Deputy Secretary General.
Further, Saboti lawmaker Caleb Hamisi was named the deputy organizing secretary taking over from former Kwale Woman Representative, Zulekha Hassan.
After parting ways with ODM leader Raila Odinga, Olga Karani will no longer serve as the deputy national treasurer.
The party has appointed Kwale Woman Representative, Fatuma Mutiso as her replacement.
Additionally, Migori Senator, Eddie Oketch, will succeed Bob Njagi as the secretary for humanitarian and disaster management affairs.
Also, Kakamega Woman Representative, Elsie Muhando, will take over from former Shinyalu MP, Justus Kizito, as the secretary for security.

ODM Expels Rebels
These changes came two days after the party’s NEC approved the expulsion of members affiliated with President William Ruto.
On Wednesday, September 6, ODM expelled Felix Odiwuor Jalang’o (Lang’ata), Tom Ojienda (Kisumu), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem) Caroli Omondi (Suba South), and Gideon Ochada (Bondo).
The five MPs were accused of gross misconduct and defying the party’s position.
However, the party decided to fine MPs Paul Abuor (Rongo) and Mark Nyamita of Uriri a sum of Ksh 1 million each.

The two MPs have been directed to pay the amount within sixty days.
Abuor and Nyamita missed out of the expulsion list after explaining the reasons for their actions in-person before the disciplinary committee.
Nairobi Woman Representative, Esther Passaris, was also fined Ksh250,000 for voting in favor of the Finance Bill at the National Assembly.
Further, ODM revoked the nominations of four Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from Kisumu County on allegations of gross misconduct.
ODM Chairman John Mbadi explained that the party already started the process of deleting the expelled members from their register.
