In Kenya’s dynamic political landscape, a few politicians have enjoyed remarkable success, winning every election they’ve contested.

This article highlights Kenyan politicians who have never faced defeat at the ballot box.

List of 5 Politicians Who Have Never Lost In an Election

President William Ruto is regarded by many as a tactician and strategist in politics, an art he is said to have learned from the late President Daniel Torotich Arap Moi.

He has also been credited with helping various leaders ascend to higher positions, including Raila Odinga, who became Prime Minister after the disputed 2007 presidential elections, where Ruto was part of his campaign team. Additionally, he aided Uhuru Kenyatta in becoming President in 2013, a position he helped him secure twice, in both 2013 and 2017.

Ruto has never lost an election since he began his political career. He first entered elective politics in 1997 by winning the Eldoret North Member of Parliament seat, defeating the incumbent, Reuben Chesire, who was Moi’s preferred candidate and the Uasin Gishu KANU branch chairman and assistant minister. Ruto remained an Eldoret North lawmaker until 2013.

During the 2013 general elections, Ruto and Uhuru Kenyatta ran on a joint presidential ticket under the Jubilee Coalition, winning the elections.

Uhuru became Kenya’s fourth President, while Ruto assumed the role of Deputy President. Both Ruto and Uhuru were reelected in the 2017 general elections, defeating Raila Odinga’s NASA Coalition.

In 2022, Ruto made his first bid for the presidency and won, defeating Raila Odinga’s Azimio coalition.

Aden Duale

Another politician who has mastered the art of winning in politics is the current Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Aden Duale. Before his appointment to this role, Duale served as the Member of Parliament for Garissa Township.

He first ventured into elective politics in 2007, contesting the Dujis Constituency parliamentary seat under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket, where he secured a win. In the 2013 general elections, following the adoption of Kenya’s new constitution, Duale successfully ran for the Garissa Township parliamentary seat under the United Republican Party (URP).

In the 2017 general elections, Duale defended his seat, this time running under the Jubilee Party ticket.

He emerged victorious by defeating a formidable opponent, Farah Maalim, who was running on a Wiper Democratic Movement ticket.

In the 2022 general elections, he contested once again, this time under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, and secured a win.

Duale held his parliamentary seat until he resigned following his appointment as the Cabinet Secretary for Defence by President William Ruto.

Tim Wanyonyi

Tim Wanyonyi is another politician who has had a successful political career. He first made his entry into elective politics in 2007.

He was first elected as a councillor for the defunct Nairobi City Council in 2007 and has since been re-elected as a Member of Parliament for Westlands Constituency in the 2013, 2017, and 2022 general elections under the ODM party.

Mike Sonko

Mike Sonko has had a notable political career. He first gained national attention when he was elected as a Member of Parliament for Makadara Constituency in a 2010 by-election under the Narc Kenya party.

He then served as the Senator for Nairobi from 2013 to 2017 under the TNA ticket and subsequently as the Governor of Nairobi under the Jubilee Party from 2017 until his impeachment in 2020.

Millie Odhiambo

Millie Odhiambo is among the renowned female politicians in the country. Millie Odhiambo has had a notable political career.

She was first nominated as a Member of Parliament in 2007 by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and then elected as a Parliament for Suba East Constituency in the 2013 Kenyan general election.

Since then, she has successfully defended her seat in subsequent elections.
