Nominated Member of Parliament (MP) Sabina Chege has advised President William Ruto to allow Cabinet Secretaries (CSs) and Principal Secretaries (PSs) to perform their duties.
In an interview on Thursday, September 12, Sabina said the president is handling many functions, some of which he could delegate to the CSs and PSs.
“With our current president, he seems to be doing everything. He appears to be making decisions, going to the ground to launch projects, and convincing people. He needs a team,” Sabina said.
The MP suggested that Ruto should form a team to handle government projects and allow the CSs and PSs to manage most of the groundwork.
“He is in the kitchen cooking, serving, washing, and advising himself. He needs people who can work for him. Let the Cabinet Secretaries launch those projects, and let the Principal Secretaries conduct the visibility studies,” she said.
Sabina Chege said the President should focus on higher-level tasks, chair cabinet meetings, and take time off. She argued that Ruto is human and cannot handle everything. At some point, he might break down and make poor decisions due to the pressure.
Sabina emphasized that the President’s team must include people with practical experience on the ground and avoid those who rely solely on theoretical assumptions.

Sabina Chege Calls Warns Ruto Against Finance Bill 2024 Drafters
Additionally, she criticized the drafters of the Finance Bill 2024, calling them enemies of the President and the people of Kenya.
“To the president, the person who drafted the Finance Bill is your enemy and the enemy of the people. This person wanted you out of power and wanted you to fail completely; that is the reality,” she said.

Learn from Kibaki
Sabina suggested that Ruto should learn from the late President Mwai Kibaki, who effectively used his ministers to advance his government’s agendas.
She explained that Kibaki had an accident when he came to power and could not articulate his issues very well, so he relied on his cabinet to implement his agenda.
Furthermore, Sabina noted that Kibaki could drive straight from Nairobi to his home in Othaya, Nyeri County, without stopping, unlike Ruto, who frequently takes regional tours.
“He had people who made things move, not necessarily President Kibaki himself, but with his blessings,” she said.
