The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has released a five-day weather forecast for the period from December 25 to December 29 as the New Year approaches.
In the forecast published on December 25, Kenya Met stated that occasional rainfall is anticipated over the southern half of the country, with rainfall intensity likely to increase as the period progresses.
Strong southeasterly winds, exceeding 25 knots (12.5 m/s), are also expected over Marsabit County.
Kenya Met Issues 5 Day Weather Forecast
According to Kenya Met, areas including the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley will experience morning rains. At the same time, showers are expected in the afternoons and nights throughout the forecast period.
The counties in this region include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot.
In the Highlands east of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and its surrounding areas, the weather department predicts cloudy conditions with light rain in the mornings, followed by sunny intervals.

Afternoons and nights are expected to see showers in some areas. Other counties in this region include Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi.
In the northwestern region, which includes Turkana and Samburu counties, mornings are expected to be mostly sunny, though some days may see rain in a few places.
Afternoons are expected to remain sunny throughout the forecast period, while nights will likely be partly cloudy.
The southeastern lowlands, which cover counties like Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, Taita Taveta, and parts of Tana River County, are expected to have cloudy weather with light rain and some sunny periods during this time. Afternoons are expected to have showers in some areas, as well as at night.
Weather Updates for the Coast Region
In the coast region, which includes Mombasa, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale counties, as well as the coastal parts of Tana River County, showers are expected in some areas in the mornings, except on Friday, December 26, and Saturday, December 27, when the weather will be sunny.

Nights will mainly experience showers, except for Thursday, December 25, and Friday, December 26, when conditions will be partly cloudy.
Areas in the North Eastern Region, including Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo counties, are forecast to have sunny intervals in the mornings and afternoons. At the same time, nights are expected to be partly cloudy.
