The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a five-day outlook weather forecast for the week starting August 9 to August 13, 2024. Kenya Met published the weather outlook in the wake of chilly conditions in the country’s capital Nairobi.
In its forecast on Thursday August 8, Kenya Met predicted regions expected to receive rains both in heavy and moderate amounts.
Nairobi residents and Kenyans in other select regions should continue bracing themselves for rains and low temperatures for the next five days.
According to the weatherman, some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley the South-eastern lowlands and the Rift Valley are expected to experience rainfall alternating with intermittent cool and cloudy conditions.
The Highlands East of the Rift Valley which include Nairobi County covers central Kenya counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi Counties.
“Rainfall is likely to continue over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley and the Coast.
Intermittent cool and cloudy conditions are expected over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands and the Rift Valley,” said KMD.
In these areas, the intermittent cloudiness followed by light rains over few places, is expected in the mornings giving way to sunny intervals.
Kenya Met on Minimum and maximum temperatures
Afternoon and night showers are expected over few (mostly high ground) areas as per the advisory.

Also, residents in these regions will experience minimum temperatures of up to 06°C and maximum of 26°C.
The low temperatures are expected to be accompanied by either showers or partly cloudy conditions during the mornings and afternoons according to the weatherman.
On the other hand, the low temperatures in some places of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley are expected to be accompanied by showers and thunderstorms especially in the afternoons and during the night.
These includes the counties of West Pokot, Siaya, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, and Busia.
However, these regions are expected to experience Sunny intervals for at least three days especially during mornings accompanied by maximum temperatures of 30°C.
Parts of Kenya to remain dry
At the same time the weather department said that the rest of the country will be generally dry.

Maximum High daytime temperatures of more than 31°C will be experienced in parts of the coastal counties of Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale.
Areas within the South-eastern lowlands, which include Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta Counties are set to experience minimum temperatures of 09°C and 32°C maximum.
According to the Kenya Met, the high temperatures are to be experienced mostly during afternoons which are expected to be covered by sunny intervals while most nights will remain partly cloudy.
North-eastern Kenya counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties will remain dry with maximum temperatures of 37°C especially during the day, with cloudy conditions expected during the night.
