Residents in at least 19 counties should prepare for rainfall this week even as most parts of the country remain generally dry, according to the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD).
In its weekly forecast covering July 21 to July 27, 2026, Kenya Met said rainfall is expected in parts of Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Kakamega, Kericho, Kisii, Nakuru, Busia, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Narok, Bomet, Nyamira, Vihiga, Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Migori, Lamu and Nyandarua.
The forecast also indicates that residents of Nairobi, Kiambu, Kirinyaga, Laikipia, Meru, Murang’a, Nyeri and Tharaka-Nithi should expect intermittent cool and cloudy conditions during the week.
While rainfall will be experienced in some areas, Kenya Met revealed that most parts of the country are expected to remain dry.
Kenya Met Lists Counties to Receive Afternoon Showers and Thunderstorms
The Meteorological Department said afternoon showers and thunderstorms are likely in parts of western Kenya and the Rift Valley.
Counties expected to experience afternoon showers and thunderstorms include Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Kakamega, Kericho, Kisii, Nakuru, Busia, Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Narok, Bomet, Nyamira, Vihiga, Uasin Gishu, Migori and Nandi.
Afternoon showers are also forecast in Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, coastal parts of Tana River, Taita Taveta, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Tharaka-Nithi, Nairobi, Embu and Garissa.
Night showers may occur in Kisumu, Siaya, Busia, Bungoma, Uasin Gishu, Bomet, Nakuru, Trans Nzoia and Kakamega, while many other parts of the country will experience partly cloudy nights.

Hot Daytime Temperatures Expected in Northern and Coastal Kenya
The department said daytime temperatures will exceed 30 degrees Celsius in parts of Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, Isiolo, Marsabit, Samburu, Busia, Bungoma, Kakamega, West Pokot and Turkana counties.
Mandera is expected to remain the hottest town, with temperatures reaching 37°C, followed by Garissa and Wajir at 34°C, while Lodwar is forecast to record 36°C.
Sunny intervals are expected in the mornings in Baringo, Bomet, Elgeyo/Marakwet, Homa
Bay, Isiolo, Kajiado, Kericho, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Mandera, Migori, Nakuru, Nandi,
Narok, Samburu, Taita/Taveta, Tana River, Trans Nzoia, Turkana, Uasin Gishu, Vihiga,
Wajir and West Pokot counties.
Sunny intervals are expected in the afternoons in Baringo, Elgeyo/Marakwet, Isiolo,
Kajiado, Kiambu, Kitui, Laikipia, Machakos, Makueni, Mandera, Marsabit, Meru, Samburu, Tana River, Turkana, Wajir and West Pokot counties.
Cold Nights to Persist in Central Kenya
Night-time temperatures below 10°C are expected in parts of Meru, Tharaka-Nithi, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nakuru and Taita Taveta counties.
Among major towns, Nyahururu is forecast to record the lowest minimum temperature of 5°C, followed by Eldoret and Laikipia at 9°C, while Nairobi is expected to experience minimum temperatures of 10°C.
Partly cloudy nights are expected in Baringo, Elgeyo/Marakwet, Embu, Garissa, Homa Bay,Isiolo, Kajiado, Kericho, Kiambu, Kilifi, Kirinyaga, Kisii, Kitui, Kwale, Laikipia, Lamu,
Machakos, Makueni, Mandera, and Marsabit Counties.
Other counties include Meru, Migori, Mombasa, Murang’a, Nairobi, Nandi,Narok, Nyamira, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Samburu, Taita/Taveta, Tana River, Tharaka-Nithi, Turkana, Vihiga, Wajir and West Pokot counties.

Review of Last Week’s Weather
According to the department, most parts of Kenya remained dry between July 13 and July 19, although rainfall was recorded in Trans Nzoia, Kakamega, Bungoma, Uasin Gishu, Kericho and Kisii.
The highest seven-day rainfall total of 110 millimeters was recorded at the Kaisagat Small Park Research Center weather station in Trans Nzoia County, which also recorded the highest 24-hour rainfall of 65 millimeters on July 17.
Mandera Meteorological Station recorded the highest daily maximum temperature of 37.3°C on July 14, while Nyahururu Meteorological Station had the lowest daily minimum temperature of 5.2°C on July 15.
