Several counties across the country are expected to receive rainfall during the first week of August, according to the latest weather forecast issued by the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD).
In its five-day forecast covering August 2 to August 6, 2026, Kenya Met said rainfall is expected in several counties, while residents in Nairobi and parts of Central Kenya, the Rift Valley, Eastern and North Eastern regions should also prepare for intermittent cool and cloudy conditions.
“Rainfall is expected in several counties,” Kenya Met said.
The forecast indicates that Nairobi, Kisii, Kericho, Kajiado, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nyeri, Nyandarua, Machakos, Kitui, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi, Meru, Isiolo and Wajir will experience intermittent cool and cloudy conditions during the forecast period.
Kenya Met Says Rain Expected in Highlands and Western Kenya
The Kenya Meteorological Department predicts afternoon and evening showers in parts of the Rift Valley, western Kenya and the central highlands.
Counties expected to receive rainfall include Nyandarua, Nyeri, West Pokot, Trans Nzoia, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nandi, Baringo, Nakuru, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii and Nyamira.
Nyandarua is expected to record moderate afternoon showers on Sunday before lighter showers persist into the week, while Nandi, Uasin Gishu, West Pokot and Trans Nzoia are also forecast to receive moderate rainfall on several afternoons.
Kisii, Kericho and neighbouring counties are expected to experience light to moderate showers during parts of the five-day period.

Light Showers Along the Coast
Residents in the Coast region should expect mostly warm conditions, punctuated by morning light showers in some counties.
Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale and Lamu are forecast to receive occasional light morning showers on selected days, while afternoons will remain largely sunny.
Maximum temperatures along the Coast are expected to range between 27°C and 31°C, with minimum temperatures of 21°C to 25°C.
Hot Days in Northern Kenya
Northern Kenya is expected to remain hot and largely dry throughout the period.
Mandera is expected to record the highest temperatures in the country, reaching 37°C on Sunday and Wednesday, while Garissa and Wajir are expected to register daytime temperatures of between 33°C and 34°C.
Turkana will also remain hot, with temperatures climbing to 36°C on several days.

Cold Nights in Central Kenya
According to the forecast, Central Kenya and parts of the Rift Valley will continue to experience chilly nights and cool mornings.
Nyandarua is expected to record some of the country’s lowest minimum temperatures, dropping to 7°C on Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Laikipia, Kajiado, Nyeri, Kiambu and Nairobi are also expected to experience cool mornings, with minimum temperatures ranging between 9°C and 13°C.
Nairobi residents should expect cloudy to sunny mornings from Sunday through Tuesday before sunnier conditions prevail later in the week.
Daytime temperatures are expected to range between 22°C and 24°C, while night temperatures will remain between 12°C and 13°C.
