Russian President Vladimir Putin has commented on European leaders and former US President Donald Trump.
In a video interview shared by Open-Source Intel on January 21, Putin suggested that Europe has no realistic response to Trump’s interest in Greenland.
“You’ll see it will happen quickly, soon, they will all stand at the feet of the master. Everything will fall into place.”
On the comparison between Trump and President Biden, Putin claimed that European leaders were compliant under Biden but actively opposed Trump.
Putin said that nothing has changed, claiming that European leaders were happy to follow any orders from Washington under Biden but did not like Trump.
He added that Trump’s policies and views, including on gender issues, differ from those favored in Europe, and asserted that Trump’s character and perseverance would ensure that European leaders eventually fall in line.
Putin Comments on European Leaders and Trump Amid Greenland Talk
His comment follows Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s questioning whether Greenland should be considered a natural part of Denmark.
Speaking at a news conference on January 20, Lavrov noted that many countries continue to maintain control over former colonies, which he described as a violation of the United Nations Security Council Charter.
Lavrov traced Greenland’s history back to the colonial era, explaining that it was initially a Norwegian colony before becoming part of Denmark in the 18th century.
He stressed that, historically, Greenland was not a natural part of either Norway or Denmark but a territory acquired through colonial expansion.

European leaders have stepped up criticism against Trump over his plans to gain control of Greenland, calling the move an act of “new colonialism”.
Trump has maintained that he will not abandon his objective to control the majority of the territory.

He described the approach as confrontational and stressed that international law and respect for sovereignty should guide global relations, rather than coercion.
At the same time, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also criticized Trump’s plan to levy a 10% tariff on imports from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands, and Finland if they opposed his proposals.
She noted that political and trade agreements between the EU and the US should be honoured, warning that aggressive measures risk undermining trust between allies.
Von der Leyen stressed that Europeans should consider the US not only as a partner but also as a friend and cautioned that transatlantic relations could be damaged if tensions escalate.
She added that any European response would be unified, measured, and proportionate.
