Airspace closure and disruption to operations
Foreign airline operations in Qatar were affected since late February when the country’s airspace was temporarily closed as part of precautionary measures tied to regional tensions.
The disruption came amid heightened conflict across parts of the Middle East, which led several Gulf states to restrict or suspend air traffic for safety reasons.
On 28 February 2026, Hamad International Airport confirmed a full suspension of aircraft movements due to the airspace closure, stating that safety considerations were the main priority.
In March, only limited repatriation and relief flights were being allowed as authorities worked with airlines to manage stranded passengers and essential travel.
Qatar Airways and other carriers suspended services, with official updates confirming that operations would remain halted until the airspace was declared safe for reopening.
