Syrian government forces have officially taken control of the strategic Al-Tanf military base in southeastern Syria following the full withdrawal of U.S. troops.
The al-Tanf military base is located near the Jordan-Iraq-Syria border in the tri-border area of Syria, Jordan, and Iraq.
The base was established as a key hub for operations by the US-led global operation against Islamic State terrorists, ISIS.
U.S. Forces Complete Coordinated Withdrawal
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has completed the orderly departure of U.S. forces from al-Tanf Garrison in Syria as part of a deliberate and conditions-based transition by Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR). The withdrawal has been taking place for 15 days and was finalized on February 11.

The US has also reaffirmed its efforts in countering any terrorist attacks in the region
“US forces remain poised to respond to any ISIS threats that arise in the region as we support partner-led efforts to prevent the terrorist network’s resurgence,” stated Centcom head Admiral Brad Cooper.
The U.S. military has now completed the planned and coordinated relocation of its personnel and military assets to neighboring Jordan following an orderly withdrawal from the Al-Tanf base.
U.S. forces have struck more than 100 targets with over 350 precision munitions while capturing or killing more than 50 ISIS terrorists for the past two months in Syria.
Strategic Importance of Al-Tanf Base in Syria
Al-Tanf is located in the tri-border region, connecting Syria, Jordan, and Iraq.
Its location has allowed coalition forces to monitor smuggling routes, prevent extremist movements, and maintain pressure on ISIS remnants in the desert region.
The Syrian Defence Ministry has stated that government troops are now securing the base and surrounding desert areas.
The deployment includes border guards to strengthen control along the frontier in the coming days.
Deployment of Syrian troops at al-Tanf base and the surrounding areas comes after last month’s deal between the Syrian government and the U.S.-backed terrorist group PKK/YPG to merge into the military.

US Deploys Another Aircraft amid rising tension
The Pentagon has ordered an additional aircraft carrier to prepare for deployment to the Middle East amid rising tensions between the United States and Iran and ongoing nuclear negotiations between the two countries.
The Wall Street Journal, while citing three United States officials, reported on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, that the USS George H.W. Bush could accelerate its departure if necessary.
According to the officials, the aircraft carrier could reach the region within two weeks. WSJ reported that the U.S. officials stressed that no formal order has yet been issued to deploy the USS George H.W. Bush, but preparations are underway.
If dispatched, the carrier would join the USS Abraham Lincoln, which has already reached the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) area of responsibility in the Arabian Sea.
The Nimitz-class carrier brings more than 65 aircraft, including F-15E Strike Eagles, and is supported by guided-missile destroyers such as the USS Frank E. Petersen, Jr., USS Spruance, and USS Michael Murphy.
