Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has left former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s camp just hours before he launched his new party Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), choosing instead to join former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.
In a statement dated Thursday April 15, Wamuchomba stated that President Wiliam Ruto serving as a one term President is inevitable accompanying a picture of her with Matiangi.
“Consultations on going …….Wantam is inevitable,” Wamuchomba said.
Also present in the photo which the Githunguri Legislator took with former Interior CS was former Kitui Governor, Charity Ngilu.

For a while, Wamuchomba has been missing in action from Gachagua’s political gatherings, unlike in the past when she attended nearly every political meeting of the former Deputy President since his impeachment.
In a media interview on March 24, 2025, Wamuchomba stated that the former Deputy President largely contributed to his downfall which had saw him being impeached.

She publicly stated that Gachagua’s conduct alienated many leaders, making it difficult to rally support against his impeachment. The Githunguri legislator also stated that she urged him to adopt a more inclusive, national approach rather than prioritizing regional interests.
“For the last two years when he was in office, he did not carry himself in a pleasant way that would appeal to most members to support him. He was a bit too abrasive, his language was off-key, and his conduct was sometimes off the radar,” Wamuchomba said.

Gachagua stated that the party’s slogan, “Skiza Wakenya,” which translates to “Listen to Kenyans,” reflects its mission to prioritize the concerns of Kenyans in governance.
“We believe that every Kenyan must be heard by their leaders. This listening should not be superficial; it must be intentional, structured, purposeful, and sustainable. At no point in our leadership will Kenyans be left behind or go unheard,” said Gachagua.
