The government of Sudan has demanded an apology from Uganda following remarks made by the country’s Chief of Defence Forces and son of President Yoweri Museveni, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Muhoozi made remarks on his X platform about Uganda threatening to capture Khartoum as soon as the U.S. President-elect Donald Trump takes office.
In a statement issued on December 18, 2024, the Government of Sudan demanded an official apology from the Government of Uganda, calling upon the regional and international organizations to condemn his statements.
“The Government of Sudan, therefore, demands an official apology from the Government of Uganda for these offensive and dangerous remarks,” read the statement in part.
Sudan calls out Muhoozi for his remarks
“It equally calls on the African Union, regional and international organizations, and the entire international community to condemn these statements, which pose a clear threat to regional and international peace and security and insult the dignity of Africans,” read another part of the statement.
It went on to state that the remarks display utter disrespect for international laws and break mutual respect between friendly nations.

“The unprecedented and deviant utterance displays an incredible level of disrespect for international law, the ethos of interstate relations, and the principles of mutual respect between sästerly and friendly nations,” said a part of the statement.
The government of Sudan called out Muhoozi for his remarks based on the position he holds in the military.
Muhoozi’s remarks threaten the military code of conduct
It further constitutes a complete departure from the accepted code of conduct expected of holders of high official and military positions, who are required to exhibit reason, discipline, and careful choice of language in their behavior.
Sudan further stated that the remarks which threaten war, violate national sovereignty, defy the United Nations Charter, the African Union’s Constitutive Act, and international law are far too serious to be trivialized or used as a means for seeking attention or sensationalism.

In 2022, Muhoozi found himself in a similar position after making careless remarks about Kenya, on his X platform.
“It wouldn’t take us, my army and me, 2 weeks to capture Nairobi,” wrote Muhoozi.
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni came out to offer an apology to Kenya, for his son’s remarks, terming them as meddling in the affairs of Kenya.
Museveni’s son appears to be courting controversy internally and externally. On December 19, he expressed support for his mother and First Lady Janet Museveni to be the next President when Museveni exists the stage.
