The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the closure of a major highway within the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
KeNHA in a statement issued on Friday, June 14, 2024, announced the temporary closure of Uhuru Highway located between the University of Nairobi Roundabout and Nairobi Expressway Exit (Museum Hill Exit).
The Authority said that the closure will take place from Friday, June 14, 2024, at 11:00pm to Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 11:00pm.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority wishes to inform the public that there will be a temporary closure of Uhuru Highway (A8) between the University of Nairobi Roundabout and Nairobi Expressway Exit (Museum Hill Exit) along the Nakuru bound carriageway from Friday June 14, 2024, at 11:00pm to Sunday June 23, 2024, at 11:00pm,” reads part of the notice.

According to KeNHA, the closure of the road is meant to allow highway maintenance works at the section.
KenHA Gives Alternative Routes
Additionally, motorists intending to use Uhuru Highway (A8) Nakuru bound section will use alternative routes such as Nyerere Road, Arboretum Drive, River Side Drive, and Ring Road Kileleshwa.

“All motorists intending to use Uhuru Highway (A8) Nakuru bound section will use alternative routes such as Nyerere Road, Arboretum Drive, River Side Drive, and Ring Road Kileleshwa,” said KenHA
Motorists have further been advised to approach the affected section with caution and follow the traffic signs and guidance in place as directed by police and traffic Marshalls on site.
Also, the Authority reiterated its commitment to ensuring seamless connectivity and safe passage.
“The Authority remains committed to ensure seamless connectivity to facilitate safe passage for economic prosperity.”
Past KenHA Road Closures Within The CBD
The closure comes days after another one that also affected a major road along the CBD.
KeNHA in a statement on May 31, 2024, announced the closure which affected both Nairobi and Mombasa bound lanes of the Road at the Imaara Mall section.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wish to notify the Public that there will be a partial closure of Mombasa (A8) Road, Nairobi bound lanes at Imaara Mall,” read part of the statement.
According to the Authority, the disruption was also to allow the contractor on site to improve sections of the road.
