Sanaipei Tande is a celebrated Kenyan singer, songwriter, radio personality, entertainer, and karaoke host who has left an undeniable mark on the region’s music and entertainment industry.
She first rose to fame in 2004 after winning the East Africa Coca-Cola Popstars talent search alongside her bandmates Kevin Waweru and Pam Waithaka.
That victory launched her into the limelight and paved the way for a career spanning nearly two decades.
Born Natasha Sanaipei Tande on March 22, 1985, she grew up with music close to her heart and often looked up to her uncle, legendary Kenyan musician Nameless, as her inspiration.
Sanaipei’s Education
Sanaipei began her academic journey at Loreto Convent Primary School in Mombasa before joining Mama Ngina High School and later Aga Khan Secondary School in Mombasa. When her family relocated to Nairobi, she enrolled at St. Lucy Kiriri School, where she completed her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and participated actively in the school choir.
She later joined the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) to pursue a course in Pharmacy. However, fate had different plans, as her music career began to blossom while she was still in medical school.

Career
Sanaipei’s career took off after she auditioned for the Coca-Cola Popstars East Africa competition in 2004.
Out of hundreds of hopefuls, she emerged among the 14 finalists who traveled to Mombasa for the final stages of the show.
Her vocal prowess, charm, and stage presence helped her secure a win as part of the group Sema.
The trio went on to sign a deal with Homeboyz and released a 17-track album, quickly becoming a sensation in the region. Despite their success, the group disbanded shortly after, prompting Sanaipei to pursue a solo career.
Her solo music career has been marked by hits such as Najuta, Mfalme wa Mapenzi, Kope Kope, Simama Imara, Nabo, Ningekuwa Boi, Yako, Giza, Kipimo, Malaika, Mwema, Ankula Huu, Jali, Amina, Chaguo La Moyo, and Sema Ndiyo.
Known for blending Afropop, Bongo Flava, R&B, and Swahili soul, Sanaipei has carved a niche for herself as one of Kenya’s most versatile female vocalists.
She has also collaborated with top artists, including Jua Cali, Nyashinski, Kidum, Madtraxx, Otile Brown, Nameless, Pipipili, and Dan Aceda, creating timeless music that continues to resonate with audiences.
She has also been featured in films like The Chocolate Empire, a TV series in which she played Margaret Nuru, and Kash Money, a Netflix film in which she portrayed a socialite wife.

Awards and Recognition
Sanaipei’s talent has been recognized through various awards and nominations throughout her career, including the 2004 Coca-Cola Popstars Competition that she won as part of Sema.
In 2005, Sema won Best Upcoming Group at the Kisima Music Awards, 2008she was nominated for Best Female Artist at the Kisima Music Awards.
The track Chaguo La Moyo, with Otile Brown, won Best Collaboration at the Pulse Music Video Awards (PMVA). In 2019, she was nominated at the PMVA for Ankula Huu, with Nyashinski.
She was also recognized by the Radio Africa Group as one of the Top 100 Influential Female Artists in Kenya, among many other honors.
From her early days as a pop sensation to her growth as a solo artist, Sanaipei Tande has remained consistent and relevant in Kenya’s evolving entertainment scene.
