The Kenya Reinsurance Corporation (Kenya Re) has picked Dr Hillary Maina Wachinga as its new managing director to replace Jadiah Mwarania, who retired in 2022.
The appointment of Dr Wachinga, who has been the company’s risk and compliance operations manager, is subject to regulatory approval.
“In accordance with the Capital Markets Act and its Regulations, the Board of Directors of Kenya Reinsurance Corporation Limited wishes to announce and inform the public of the appointment of Dr Hillary Maina Wachinga as the Managing Director of the Corporation,” Kenya Re statement read in part.
“Dr Wachinga is a multi-skilled strategic thinker with over 17 years of proven work experience in risk management, compliance and auditing – 16 of which have been at management level,”
Before his appointment, Dr Wachinga had been overseeing the Corporation’s risk and compliance operations.

Dr Wachinga holds a doctorate and master’s in business administration and computer Science from the University of Nairobi.
He is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA-K), Certified Information Systems Manager (CISM), Certified in Risks and Information Systems Control (CRISK), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Enterprise Risk Manager (CERM) and Certified Compliance Analyst (CCA).
Other qualifications are the certificates in insurance proficiency (COP) from the College of Insurance and Project Management from Strathmore University and Corporate Governance from the Centre of Corporate Governance.
