The driver of the Super Metro bus that collided with a lorry on Monday, January 29, morning was trying to overtake another vehicle and driving at high speed, survivors from the accident have now revealed.
Speaking to the media on Monday, January 28, the survivors said the bus had been cruising at a highspeed, moments before it rammed into the oncoming lorry.
One of the survivors said the bus had been delayed at the border point between Kenya and Uganda.
While attempting to recover the time lost in the delay, the driver of the bus resorted to driving fast oblivious of the danger he was exposing his passengers to.
Another survivor from the early morning crash said the driver could have contained the situation if he was driving at a slower speed.
“We were delayed at the border point so he was recovering for the time wasted driving at a very fast speed,” a survivor said in a media interview.
“If it was not fast, we would have controlled the incident, but he was moving fast and that is why he lost control.”
