Two people have been confirmed dead and at least 10 others seriously injured after a bus they were traveling in was involved in a tragic road accident in the Muguga area of Kikuyu, Kiambu County.
Kikuyu Police Commander Ronald Kirui while confirming the Saturday, April 6, 2024, morning accident reported that the Eldoret Express Company 62-seater bus rammed into a fuel tanker that had stalled on the road due to mechanical issues.
The bus was heading to Nairobi from Nakuru along the busy highway when the driver lost control and hit the truck from behind.
Photos seen by The Kenya Times showed the bus partially penetrated into the fuel tanker on the left side of the front part, indicating the impact of the crash.
By the time of publishing this article, police officers had already arrived on site with rescue operations ongoing led by the St John’s Ambulance team to rush the casualties to the hospital.
According to police report, the injured were rushed to various hospitals for medical attention within Kikuyu as investigations into the incident continued.

Motorists were also advised to drive with caution along the Muguga stretch in the Nakuru-Nairobi Highway, especially now that it’s raining.
Spike in road accidents
The Saturday morning accident adds to the string of tragic traffic accidents reported this week.
Eleven people including a student from Chavakali High School died on Monday, April 1, in separate road accidents.
In the first accident, the student passed on while others sustained injuries after the Easy Coach bus they were traveling in was involved in an accident along the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway.

Elsewhere in Makueni County, 10 people died in another road accident involving multiple vehicles at the Salama area along the Mombasa-Nairobi Highway.
The vehicles involved included an 18-seater matatu, two trucks, a saloon car and a 14-seater matatu.
Latest data released by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) in March revealed that fatalities resulting from road accidents in the country had risen by 7 per cent.
According to the statistics, 1,026 people had been killed in road accidents across the country from January to March 20, 2024.
