The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced that it is closing Uhuru Highway from Haile Selassie to Bunyala roundabout.
In a statement on Thursday, October 19, the authority stated that the highway will be closed for three days starting from October 19 to Saturday, October 21.
Further, the agency noted that the move will allow for maintenance work along the above-mentioned section.
“KeNHA wishes to notify the Public of a temporary closure of Uhuru Highway from Haile Selassie to Bunyala roundabouts on Mombasa Bound lanes from Thursday October 19, 2023, to Saturday October 21, 2023, both days inclusive.
“This is to allow for the highway maintenance works along the section,” stated the notice in part.
KeNHA Issues Alternative Routes
At the same time, the authority advised motorists heading towards Mombasa Road to exit at Haile Selassie roundabout.
Additionally,
KeNHA noted that that those motorists could share the Nairobi Bound Carriageway at Bunyala roundabout and later rejoin the Mombasa Bound carriageway.
Moreover, the agency indicated that traffic marshals and police officers will be stationed at the locations to help motorists.

“The Motorists heading towards Mombasa Road are advised to exit at Haile Selassie roundabout, and share the Nairobi Bound carriageway with the Nairobi Bound traffic, and rejoin Mombasa Bound carriageway at Bunyala roundabout.
“Motorists are advised to approach this section with caution and follow traffic signs and guidance as directed by traffic marshals and Police,” added the agency.
Murkomen on Southern Bypass
The announcement came after uproar over erected bumps along the Southern Bypass pushing transport Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen to order repairs on the road.

In a statement on October 4, the transport CS noted that he was aware of the recent accidents that had been occurring on the road.
Additionally, he noted that the road contractor had put up signage to help guide motorists plying the road.
“I wish to extend my sincere condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their lives in these accidents,” he said.
“To prevent accidents and protect lives, the contractor has placed road signage and installed temporary bumps made of quarry dust in the freshly repaired areas.”
