The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced a three-hour maintenance period that will temporarily take its website offline on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
Ina notice issued on Tuesday September 22, KRA said the scheduled maintenance will begin at 5:00pm and end at 8:00pm on the same day.
The authority said the exercise will affect the KRA website, with all website users expected to be unable to access it during the maintenance period.
KRA Website to Shut Down for Three Hours Today
During this period the KRA Website will be unavailable.
“Kenya Revenue Authority informs all stakeholders that there will be a scheduled maintenance of KRA Website as follows,” the authority said in the notice.
“Please be advised that there will be scheduled maintenance of the KRA Website from Tuesday, 22nd September 2026, 5:00 PM to Tuesday, 22nd September 2026, 8:00 PM.”
KRA said the maintenance will last three hours and advised stakeholders to take note of the scheduled downtime.
The authority apologized for any inconvenience that may be caused by the temporary interruption.
The scheduled maintenance comes days after KRA restored its iTax platform following technical disruptions that had affected taxpayers attempting to file returns and make tax payments.
KRA announced on Sunday, September 21, that iTax services had been fully restored and that taxpayers could resume filing and paying taxes through the platform.
“iTax services are now fully restored. Taxpayers can now proceed to file and pay their taxes via iTax,” the authority said.

The disruptions had occurred around the September 20 deadline for filing August Value Added Tax returns.
KRA had earlier announced that it would waive penalties and interest incurred by taxpayers as a result of the iTax downtime during September.
The waiver will cover penalties and interest linked to verified periods when the affected iTax services were unavailable or intermittently accessible.
KRA said it would carry out the necessary system processes to ensure taxpayers are not penalised for failures caused by the disruptions.
“We wish to inform taxpayers that, following the recent intermittent downtime of the iTax portal, we will waive penalties and interest arising from the system downtime during September 2026. The waiver will apply to penalties and interest attributable to the verified period of downtime, in accordance with Section 89(5A) of the Tax Procedures Act,” the Commissioner General said in a notice.
KRA said the waiver is separate from the 2026 Tax Amnesty Programme, which runs from July 1 to December 31, 2026.

Recent KRA System Interruptions
The decision follows several system interruptions this month that affected access to KRA’s digital services, including return filing and payment services.
On Monday, September 7, KRA conducted scheduled maintenance on the iTax portal from 9:30pm to 10:30pm, during which the system was unavailable to all users.
The authority had also conducted scheduled maintenance on iTax and the Integrated Customs Management System on September 13, involving the Integrated Customs Management System (iCMS) from 6am to 6pm.
Although the maintenance was on iCMS, the system is integrated with iTax and supports automated export-data prefilling on VAT returns.
iCMS is KRA’s digital platform for managing import, export, transit and transshipment cargo clearance processes.
One of its functions is to connect with internal and external systems, including iTax, to facilitate the processing of tax information.
Another disruption occurred on Wednesday, September 16, when KRA reported intermittent interruptions affecting the iTax system.
